Job Description:

As a Business Architect you will be a key member of the Data Standards team. You will work alongside a select group of highly motivated and enthusiastic professionals committed to excellence with the common goal of establishing standards that facilitate the exchange of structured data across diverse information systems. The Business Architect position is for someone who enjoys working in a client facing, collaborative environment and understands the process and benefits of standardization. A strong understanding of the Workplace Benefits market and business processes is a must. As a Business Architect, you will lead the design effort on a variety of projects in a highly visible, fast-paced program. Your role is to design innovative solutions to real business problems. You will work closely with committee members, made up of insurance and benefit administration technology experts, to develop new standards and improve existing ones. This role reports to the Senior Program Manager, Data Standards. Nature and Scope The Data Standards team, part of the Industry Solution division, is responsible for creating innovative solutions to meet the ever-changing needs of the insurance industry. A major function of the team is the design, development, and delivery of data exchange standards for the Workplace Benefits market. Data Standards are developed for a variety of industry needs and facilitate the sharing of structured data across diverse information systems. The Business Architect is critical in developing the format and content requirements of these standards. The Business Architect designs UML models with the intent to create XML and JSON schemas to transfer data between carriers and benefit administrators. The Business Architect demonstrates knowledge and understanding of business needs driving these standards and possesses the ability to consolidate ideas to formulate the best solutions from the broad perspectives of the committee members. Project and Workflow Management
In addition to data management and modeling of the standards themselves, the Business Architect will be devoted to program team leadership and project management. Working under the guidance of the Senior Program Manager, the Business Architect will be leading externally resourced development teams, managing project teams and deliverables, all at various stages of completion, monitoring the progress of all project contributors, identifying potential bottlenecks and progress slippage, determining the root cause of the slippage, and implementing or recommending corrective courses of action to maintain or regain program health. The Business Architect will be responsible for providing program level status updates and disseminating key reporting metrics.The Business Architect serves as a gatekeeper for project-specific workflow tasks, ensuring project contributors have access to the project artifacts necessary to complete their assigned work. The Business Architect communicates on a regular basis with the program committee, which requires a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, accuracy, and tact. The Business Architect must foster and maintain strong relationships with a vast array of project contributors through exceptional human relations, interpersonal, and communications skills. Data Repository Administration
The Business Architect manages the use and administration of Atlassians Bitbucket data repository for the programs artifact management, development and issue tracking. In addition, the Business Architect manages external member access the standards archive. The Business Architect provides training for internal staff and external committee members to achieve consistent and effective repository usage, document retention and archiving.
Knowledge and Skills
The Business Architect must have a strong understanding of the business landscape, products, and workflows across the workplace benefits market, along with excellent time management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail is required, with the ability to see the overall picture, recognize the interrelatedness of activities and set strategic direction. The Business Architect is organized, efficient, and able to multi-task. They must be a creative problem solver with strong analytical ability. They must be proficient with data modeling, Atlassian Bitbucket and other various XSD, JSON and API development tools. The Business Architect has a high degree of tact and diplomacy and can be trusted with confidential information. They must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, superb customer service skills, and a professional demeanor along with the ability to influence and persuade, without direct control. Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops data standards and integration methodologies (models, rules, interfaces and architecture); manages a base set of shared objects across models, schemas and documentation
  • Influences the design of standard configurations; makes significant contributions to technology roadmaps and architectural principles and frameworks
  • Plans, schedules, leads, monitors, and adjusts program teams, initiatives and project deliverables in a dynamic and complex environment;
  • Reviews and ensures major architectural designs are consistent, maintainable, flexible and effective
  • Under guidance of the Senior Program Manager, provides tactical oversight at the program level; influencing decision-making and prioritizing the business and architecture backlog that enable the program
  • Manages data standards repository; documents and maintains accurate and complete project artifacts and build activities to maintain standard access and archival quality
  • Ensures the overall integrity of the standards architecture and validates externally sources code against design specifications Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field
    • Extensive experience in the workplace benefits insurance market
    • 5+ years of programming/systems analysis and industry specific business expertise
    • 5+ years software engineering experience in modeling and design
    • Proven work experience as a Business Analyst preferred
    • Proven experience working in an Agile project environment
    • Expert-level understanding of logical and physical data modeling and object-oriented design methodologies
      Demonstrated expertise with:
      • Model technologies such as IBM Rational Software Architect Designer or other data modeling tools
      • API design and development tools such as SmartBear SwaggerHub
      • Developing XSD (XML) and JSON schemas
      • RESTful API web services and service-oriented architecture (SOA)
      • Documentation and help authoring tools ( Document! X)
      • Demonstrated skill in shaping and leading development of technical specifications
      • Thrives in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with a proven ability to manage relationships to elicit cooperation from participants at various levels in the organization
      • Excellent communication, problem solving, and analytical skills
