Job Description:

The Referral Coordinator (RC) is responsible for all clinical referrals. The Referral Coordinator is charged with the timely and appropriate scheduling of all clinical specialty referrals as requested by the patient's primary care provider.This is a full time position - 40 hours per week for 6 weeks to cover employee leaveThis position:--o--------Contacts specialist offices to schedule and coordinate patient appointments.o--------Maintains ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to ensure patient safety.o--------Ensures complete and accurate registration, including patient demographics and current insurance information is accompanied by the clinical referral.o--------Assembles information concerning the patient's clinical background and referrals needs. Per referral guidelines, provides appropriate clinical information to the specialist.o--------Contacts insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met.o--------Reviews details and expectations about the referral/specialist with patients.o--------Establishes and maintains relationships with identified specialty providers.o--------Ensures referrals are addressed with consult notes in a timely manner.o--------Reminds patients of scheduled appointments via mail and/or phone.o--------Observes confidentiality and safeguards all patient related information.o--------Interacts with clinical and non-clinical staff members regarding issues surrounding the Health Information department.o--------Maintains a good working relationship within the department and other departments.o--------Complies with the--mandated in-service training workshops.o--------Performs other related duties as assigned.--Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:o--------Knowledge of medical terminology; prior experience in a medical office settingo--------Knowledge of managed care pre-authorization procedures, preferredo--------Intermediate level computer skills (including all Microsoft Office Suite and database applications)o--------Bilingual in English/Spanish, preferredo--------Ability to perform and meet expectations on all patient EMR job functions assignedo--------A minimum of an Associate's Degree is required for this positionThis position requires the ability to visually access information in many forms, generally through electronic means.
