The Record-Journal, located in Meriden, Connecticut, is looking for an experienced reporter fluent in English and Spanish to cover Meriden and Wallingford, especially residents of color and historically underrepresented groups.
The beat entails listening to and understanding the needs and concerns of residents, including Meriden and Wallingford's large and diverse Latino communities, and providing content that matters most to them.
Coverage will include issues of education, healthcare, housing and jobs, including disparate access to opportunities and disparate impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We want a reporter who will be aggressive in developing sources in the community in pursuit of stories that inform our readers' daily lives through fact-based reporting on local issues they can't find anywhere else.
This position requires social media acuity and a multimedia skillset.

Job Requirements

• Minimum educational requirement, Bachelor's degree.
• Minimum 1-2 years reporting experience or equivalent experience preferred.
• Ability to conceive and execute enterprise reporting on highly specialized topics with authority.
• Ability to handle daily, short-term and long-term assignments simultaneously.
• Ability to write accurately under deadline pressure and provide necessary analysis and context in all stories.
• Excellent communication skills, shows initiative, and exercises good news judgment.
• Experience working in multimedia and familiarity with computer-assisted reporting are a plus.
• This position requires the ability to travel locally to gather newsworthy content.
