Job Description:
Associate Medical Director, General Psychiatry opening -
Meriden, CT Located 22m to New Haven, 15m to Hartford Position
Details - Full-time, permanent- Provides leadership in the
provision of appropriate evaluation, treatment and care for patient
with psychiatric disorders, collaborating with mental health care
professionals from other disciplines. Shares state-of-the-art
knowledge, relevant research findings, and current clinical
knowledge with other team members.- Coordinates with other medical
specialties the detection and treatment of psychiatric patients
non-psychiatric medical/surgical conditions. - Advocates for
chronically mentally ill patients with medical non-psychiatric
conditions to receive quality care. Consults for and advises
non-psychiatric practitioners on the care of comorbid psychiatric
conditions. May also collaborate with non-psychiatric practitioners
in the provision of mental health care.- Supervises, treatment
teams and reviews and signs treatment plans ensuring clients are
receiving the appropriate level of care.- Supervises, as
appropriate, the delivery of biopsychosocial evaluations,
individual and group psychotherapy and psychoeducational
interventions and other treatment modalities provided within the
system.- Participates in teaching and learning new psychiatric
techniques and interventions.- Prepares appropriate medical
documentation to meet regulatory requirements of licensing and
third party agencies.- Supervises staff including at level of
Psychiatrist, APRN and PA as indicated by the Medical Director.-
Supervises Residents and Students as indicated by the Medical
Director.- May serve as Program Medical Director for a defined
program and take an active role in planning, directing, and
implementing services and in promoting performance improvement.-
May perform histories, and may treat minor comorbid physical
illnesses.- May perform ECT in collaboration with an anesthetist
only if privileged to do so by the Medical Center.- May use
Physician Emergency Certificate to detain a patient as indicated.-
May use emergency psychiatric medications cautiously and only in
accordance with relevant statutes.- May order relevant lab tests
and procedures, with appropriate consent, to assist in the
diagnosis or management of a patients condition.- May provide
forensic evaluations, prepare reports and testify in court, as
