Reporting to the Vice President, Investments and working closely with the CIO, this is a search for an Assistant Vice President of Investments, with an investment fund backed, acquisitive, fast-growing, yet established, Life & Annuity carrier. Because of their mid-size, associates get involved in much and become very much part of the fabric of supporting the continued scale up of this carrier. The carrier is founder led by a CEO and a team who have extensive expertise in private equity, insurance, investment banking, Big 4, and who are well known and well-respected leaders in the life & annuity space. Their mission is to structure risk management solutions for their clients who are primarily other insurance carriers who have a need to transition in force life and annuity blocks of business. The carrier has deep financial backing and has a strong history of structuring significant, creative solutions for their clients. Through some acquisitions, the company also writes live risk, but the bulk of their business is still buying in force blocks of business.
This Assistant Vice President, Investments search is being driven, by among other things, a recent VP level hire for succession planning reasons and by the continued growth of the carrier. This carrier is based in CT but candidates from NY and NJ area and a hybrid work arrangement will be considered. A fuller job description is available. Some highlights below:
As a core member of the investment team, the AVP will assist the VP of Investments and CIO in strategic asset allocation, including investment portfolio construction in alignment with the organizations strategic asset allocation, risk appetite, ALM goals, portfolio compliance and reporting to the board of directors and external constituencies. The AVP will support the VP and CIO in the Carrier's acquisition activity as well. The AVP will assist with the investment portfolios located in the US, Canada and Bermuda.

  • Assist CIO and VP of Investments in coordinating overall investment strategy and portfolio construction in alignment with the organizations strategic asset allocation, risk appetite, ALM and capital objectives. Work closely with investment consultant.
  • Assist in developing more efficient process of monitoring and reporting on the Investment portfolios performance and underlying risks.
  • Assist in preparation of presentations to the board of directors, rating agencies and regulators
  • Assist in development of robust portfolio compliance system/process.
  • Assist in due diligence and pricing of investment portfolios of acquisition targets
  • Serve as a liaison with external investment managers
  • Assist in analysis of certain off-the-run investment opportunities, including excel modelling and preparation of investment recommendation
  • Develop a strong understanding of the investment component of U.S., Canadian and Bermudian capital models and how they affect/constrain the strategic asset allocation for the Carrier's investment portfolio
  • Assist in assessing and ensuring compliance with state regulations and company investment guidelines
  • Assist other members of investment department with new portfolio onboarding, asset and fun transfers and portfolio accounting issues
  • Develop the appropriate analytical and monitoring tools to assist in these efforts
  • Bachelors degree required; Advanced degree and/or CFA or other Professional Designation a plus
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant working experience within the financial services industry; asset management and life insurance is a plusby Jobble
