The VoiP Technician's role is to coordinate strategies for defining, deploying, and maintaining the EBF IP telephony voice communication architecture and its associated network connections and component hardware. This includes assisting with all engineering projects for VoiP initiatives, and configuring and optimizing all VoiP/IP-PBX telephone systems and services, both internally and those integrated with Internet-based services. Also, the VoiP Technician's mandate will be to maintain SLAs for all organizational IP telephony applications.

Position Overview:

Follows established guidelines for day-to-day, routine operational and administrative work. Focus on execution within defined parameters, some expansion based on developing capabilities or experiences in conjunction with experienced staff. May have informal supervisory functions assigned.

  • Support VoiP infrastructure and its associated software, including IP-PBXs, call management systems, voice mail, and interactive voice response.
  • Where necessary, assist in plan for management or phasing out of legacy telephony systems and other switch-based technologies.
  • Select, deploy, and utilize appropriate tools for reporting and routing of IP telephony traffic on the network.
  • Provide proper documentation during implementation of projects to technical support team so that new
  • implementations will be properly supported.
  • Provide planning, leadership, direction, and advanced technical expertise regarding computer and network services for local/wide area networks, and the Internet; serve as high-level technical expert in
  • regards to computer/network systems and associated issues.
  • Test and evaluate new technology and applications.
  • Make recommendations to management about the application of new technology.
  • Remain current on new transport protocols, products, and standards in support of VoiP systems development and equipment procurement.
  • This position directly impacts the availability of all production systems so 24/7 on call support and a willingness to work off-hours and weekends is required. Position Qualifications, Skills & Responsibilities:
    • Exceptional communication skills.

    • Integrate IP telephony systems with enterprise LANs, WANs, wireless LANs, and other Internet
    • based services and protocols.
    • Capacity to work with and take guidance from an allocated project manager.
    • Assist with the installation planning and maintenance of network cabling, including MDF and IDF closets.
    • Monitor and identify capacity and performance issues for VoiP traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of telephony systems. Certifications:
      • College diploma or university degree in the field of telecommunications or computer science
      • Relevant VoIP Certifications highly preferred Experience:
        • Working technical knowledge ofVoiP/IP telephony systems, software, and hardware, including voicemail systems, boarder control session devices, switches, routers, call handler devices and handsets.
        • Strong hands-on knowledge of SIP, H.323, TCPIIP, and other protocols.
        • Strong understanding VoiP QoS issues and mitigation strategies.
        • Working technical knowledge of the VoiP operating systems (Cisco, Avaya, Mitel).
        • Direct experience with Avaya and Cisco switches and routers.
        • Familiar with network topologies such as Frame Relay, ATM, ISDN, etc.
        • Knowledge of cabling and wiring systems, design, and installation.
        • Ability to manage and participate in multiple concurrent projects.
        • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
        • Extremely strong analytical and troubleshooting skills are required.
